Known as the pearl of the Gulf of Tonkin, Cat Ba never fails to fascinate visitors with its silky blue beaches and stunning mountain landscape. Because Cat Ba Island is located in northern Vietnam, there will be four distinct seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Summer is the best time to travel to Cat Ba since the weather is pleasant from April through August, making it ideal for relaxing and swimming.

Tourists can reach Cat Ba Island by ferry or speedboat from the ports of Hai Phong and Ha Long, or by Cat Hai – Phu Long cable car, which takes only 10 minutes from Hai Phong.

Where To Go In Cat Ba

Lan Ha Bay

Located in the east of Cat Ba island with numerous large and smaill islands connected by the sea, the peaceful beauty of Lan Han Bay makes people feel as if they are in another world. Coming here, visitors will be enveloped in a symphony of the sea and mountains as gorgeous as a fairyland.

Unlike Ha Long Bay, Lan Ha Bay is still quite wild and has many magnificent unknown caves and beaches, hence it is popular among international visitors to Vietnam.

Cai Beo Ancient Fishing Village

This is regarded as one of Vietnam’s oldest fishing villages. Cai Beo fishing village currently contains more than 300 households that are mostly involved in fishing. Coming here allows visitors to see directly the way of life of a historic fishing town that has been passed down through centuries. Taking a step on a raft home, kayaking amid floating rafts, purchasing seafood… are experiences not to be missed.

Monkey Island

It was once known as Cat Dua due to the abundance of wild pineapple plants that thrived there. The island was later called Monkey Island because it was home to clever, friendly monkeys. When tourists come, they often go to the beach to be fed, making the tourists very excited.

Cat Ba National Park

Cat Ba is a biosphere reserve of Vietnam and the world because of its biodiversity and rare animals. Therefore, Cat Ba National Park is the most significant natural conservation site in the entire island chain. Coming here, visitors will be able to view the unique species of langurs as well as the primeval woods covered in green undulating mountains. All exhaustion and tension from working days will be banished by the forest’s fresh, pleasant atmosphere and green space.

Cat Ba Cannon Fort

Cannon Fort is a relic site located 177 meters above sea level on a hill. This location was an important battleground during the Resistance War against America and became a testament to the people of Cat Ba Island’s fight. This location not only has historical value, but it is also the most stunning panoramic position on Cat Ba island, with a complete view of the beaches. Standing on Cannon Fort, you can take in the untouched splendor of the bay at sunset.

Stunning Beaches

If visitors do not have time to explore the islands in the bay, head to the central beaches. In which, the cluster of Cat Co and Tung Thu beaches are visited by many people because of their are vastness, tranquility, blue sea, and ease of navigation.

Notes When Travelling

 

  • From August to October, the North Bay is prone to severe storms, so please minimize vacations during this period to ensure your safety.
  • It is recommended to inquire about prices before buying or dining.
  • Only bring necessary items, bringing too much will make it harder to travel.
  • Keep a little amount of money in your pocket to avoid losing or being pickpocketed.
  • Pack extra warm clothing because the nights in Cat Ba are rather chilly.
